First Place-winning photo: Donna Balancia photographed Cedric Bixler-Zavala at The Hollywood Palladium

Donna Balancia is a content producer who has won awards for a range of journalistic and promotional work.

Her entertainment writing and photographs have earned awards at the Southern California Journalism Awards, Best Blog, Best Individual Website and feature packages.

In 2016, one of her entertainment websites, CaliforniaRocker.com was honored with two First-Place and a Third-Place Award at the National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards for photography.

Balancia won First Place and Third Place in the Best Action Photo category for her shots of Cedric Bixler Zavala of At The Drive-In, and Dick Dale, surf guitar performer, respectively.  A photography package Balancia produced for CaliforniaRocker.com, photographed and written by Suzanne Allison Witkin, earned First Place in the Photo Essay Category of the National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards.

In 2015, CaliforniaRocker.com placed in third in the best individual blog category of the National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards. Working with CaliforniaRocker.com, photographer Heather Harris won second place in the Best Photo Essay category for coverage of James Williamson’s One Night Only Alternative A-List concert.

In 2014, Balancia won a Lucie Award mention for photographs of singer Gwen Stefani, taken at the first-ever Rock in Rio USA in Las Vegas.

In 2011, Balancia led a partnership with NASA-Kennedy Space Center to win a best promotions award in marketing the Shuttle Program and its relation to tourism.

In 2010, Balancia won an award of commemoration from the United States Lifesaving Association for her journalism work covering the need for lifeguards on our beaches.

Balancia is a board member of several groups and non-profits and performs work with charities related to bringing therapeutic music into the schools.
